Nurturing Self-Esteem
Are you struggling with negative self-talk? Do you live with a harsh inner-critic? Or maybe you feel the weight of society’s expectations and the pursuit of perfection is burning you out. If you find yourself wanting to improve your self-esteem, know you’re not alone.
Diminished self-worth can be a heavy burden, and it can manifest in so many ways. Some common themes I hear from clients who want to increase their self-esteem are:
They wish they knew and liked themselves better.
They’re disappointment with where they are in life.
They have a negative relationship with their body or appearance.
Identity struggles often accompany diminished self-worth. When we feel unworthy, it's natural to question who we are and what we stand for. I see my role of therapist as a compassionate trail-guide, accompanying clients on their journey of self-discovery. By exploring their unique qualities, values, and strengths, we can re-establish a more positive self-identity.
Life transitions, while inevitable, can be incredibly challenging for those with low self-worth. Relationships, career changes, and personal upheavals can trigger self-doubt and anxiety. Especially in the age of social media, where its all-too-easy to play the comparison game, when you’re struggling with the season of life you’re in, it can feel isolating and make you wonder if you’re doing it all wrong. Therapy can offer invaluable support, helping you to examine and reframe the gloom, finding the good in your current season, and in yourself.
Negative body image is yet another facet of diminished self-worth. In a society that often promotes unrealistic beauty standards, it's easy to internalize these ideals, leading to damaging self-perceptions. Through processing these negative beliefs and the impact of society’s skewed expectations, while exploring embodiment and somatic interventions to create a more attuned relationship with your body, we can begin to unravel the mess of negative body image.
The therapist-client relationship becomes a sanctuary for healing. Through empathetic guidance and evidence-based therapies, we’ll work to help you gradually rebuild your self-worth. Self-compassion practices, assertiveness training, and exploration of self-esteem boosters all play a role in the journey towards self-empowerment.
